Are You Over Resolutions?
It’s that time of year again where everyone will be shouting about New Year’s resolutions. And although it’s unpopular I for one am over resolutions. I can’t bring myself to make another one, only to forget it by January 15.
And I believe that goal setting is different than resolution making. Goal involve actionable, specific steps and a deadline. Whereas resolutions seem to just be things you hope to do.
Obviously I’m not trying to deter you from setting resolutions if you like, I simply want to encourage us all to be mindful when setting them to minimize disappointment and maximize achievement.
Here are four ways to set better resolutions or goals in the new year.
Set 90 Day Goals. Don’t try and set yearly resolutions. Stay motivated with smaller 90 day goals you can achieve and that are a part of a larger goal.
Be True To You. Only set goals you care about. Don’t worry about resolutions you think you should set or ones that everyone is setting. Focus on what matters most to you and your family. Then go after it.
Celebrate Small Wins. If one of your goals is to learn a new language. Enjoy learning each new word or phrase. Don’t wait until you feel like you’ve mastered it to tell someone or treat your self. Enjoy the journey, trust the process and have fun.
Get Everyone Involved. When it’s time for me to workout my toddler brings my yoga mat as soon as he sees the trainer on my computer. Make your goals a family affair and help each other reach their goals.
Setting better goals can help us all achieve more and live good lives. I’d love to hear some your resolutions in the comments below!
